Panchalingeswar falls (TN), May 27: Thirteen tourists died after flash floods swept them away from the Panchalingeswar falls in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore District. The tourists were bathing under the falls, 1,000 meters above the Amanalingeswara temple, when they were swept away by a strong current.
"Some tourists were taking a bath and they were killed them," Palani Kumar, Coimbatore's District collector. Police said that almost 40 people had sought shelter in a dressing room, the only elevated shelter near the temple. The flash flood was caused by the onset of the southwest monsoon. Tourists have been banned from taking a bath under the falls.
