Though the chance of making it to semifinals depends on Chennai losing to Deccan Chargers Hyderabad in today's encounter, the visitors can further firm up their position if they win outright against the hosts. For the local team which had salvaged some lost prestige by winning two of its previous encounters and spoil the party of their rivals, nothing was at stake. The Rahul Dravid led team which had come with a dismal performance inviting the wrath of its owner Vijay Mallya is seventh among the eight member league and a win or a loss would not make any difference to its standing. The team's performance in the home turf was all the more dismal as it had won only one among the six it had played.

In last night's match Mumbai Indians who were in a winning situation lost it in the last ball when a misfield by Dilhara Fernando and a fumble by Sanath Jayasuriya enabled Rajasthan Royals to romp home by five wickets.

Mumbai have their back to the wall, as they now need Chennai Super Kings to lose to Hyderabad Deccan Chargers, and also beat Bangalore Royal Challengers in an away game.

The Hosts, who began the league with dismal note, have picked up after having won a couple of matches, they have the responsiblity of satisfying the local crowd which have been disappointed with the performance in the home pitch despite 'test team' squad. The poor performance also led to axe the services of CEO Charu Sharma who was replaced by Karnataka State Cricket Association Hon Secretary Brijesh Patil by the the liquor baron Vijay Mallya, the owner of the Royal Challengers.

If the Challengers, maintain the winning spree showed in last two matches they can thrash the dreams of Sachin Tendulkar led team and if hosts win it would also be a face saver for having won atleast five matches of the 12 played.

Mumbai now have 12 points from 13 games while hosts have 10 points.
