Delhi Congress MPs, party workers pay tribute to Pt Nehru

New Delhi, May 27 (UNI) Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Jai Prakash Agarwal today said steps taken by first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, for the all-round development of the country with foresight and fortitude were now bearing fruit as India was on the fast track of development.

Addressing a large gathering of Congress workers and leaders on the occasion of Pandit Nehru's death anniversary at Rajiv Bahwan, the DPCC office, here, Mr Agarwal, MP, said it was Nehru's great vision that helped India overcome the teething troubles following the hard fought freedom and hurdle towards development, progress and prosperity.

Earlier, Mr Agarwal, along with Congress MPs from Delhi Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar and Krishna Tirath and Delhi Minister Yoganand Shastri paid floral tributes to Pt. Nehru.

Thousands of Congress workers turned up for the function and slogan ''Pandit Nehru Amar Rahe'' (long live Pt Nehru) rent the air.

Also present at the function were were DPCC office-bearers, party MLAs Tajdar Babar, Dr Narender Nath, Malaram Gangwal, Ramakant Goswami, Naseeb Singh, Amrish Singh Gautam, Ms Kiran Walia, Ms Anjali Rai, Mr Vijay Singh Lochav and Mr Anil Bhardwaj, Opposition leader in the MCD Jai Kishan Sharma, Municipal Councillors and District presidents.

A 50-minute documentary on Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was screened at the Rajiv Bhawan hall.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Agarwal said people should take inspiration from the life of Pt. Nehru to take the country to a higher level of development and progress with discipline, dedication and commitment, which were the hallmark of Pandijit's work ethics.
