Deccan Chargers set 148 for Chennai Super Kings

By Staff

Hyderabad, May 27 (UNI) Desperate to score their first win on home ground, local lads Venugopal Rao and D B Ravi Teja made 76 runs for the third wicket helping Deccan Chargers score 147 for eight against Chennai Super Kings in their return leg league match of the DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) Tournament at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here tonight.

While Venugopal Rao made a brilliant 46 blasting three boundaries and a six before he was run out, Ravi Teja made an useful 40 with the help of four hits to the fence and a six, doing the recovery act.

Young R P Singh improved the run rate for the hosts scoring a six and a four in the dying moments of the game facing just four balls.

Electing to bat first Deccan, Chargers stand-in Skipper Adam Gilchrist, carrying the responsibility of repeating the win in their earlier outing against the Chennai team to salvage lost pride, began playing cautiously with H Gibbs on the other end.

Sharing the new ball attack with Manpreet Gony, Makhaya Ntini opened the bowling attack for Chennai, conceding only one run in his first over.

After hitting two boundaries, Gibbs(8) slashed hard a short delivery outside the off stump by Ntini to the third man, where Balaji moved a few steps forward to take an easy catch.

Chargers were in serious trouble as Gilchrist(5), trying to loft a good length delivery from Gony, got an outside edge that swirled high in the air towards third man and Abhinav Mukund dived forward to hold on to a sharp low catch.
