Bahrain Air launches maiden service

Aluva, May 27: The launching of flight service in the Bahrain-Kochi sector by Bahrain Air would further strengthen the bond between Kerala and Bahrain where a large number of Keralites were employed, Kerala Fisheries Minister S Sharma said.

Inaugurating the service from Kochi to Bahrain at Kochi International Airport at Nedumbassery yesterday, he said it would immensely help Keralites employed in Bahrain.

About 162 passengers, including mediapersons and a high-level delegation of Bahrain Air, arrived here in the first flight and nearly 80 passengers left for Bahrain by the return flight.

Addressing the gathering, Bahrain Air Managing Director Ibrahim A Alhamer said it would launch daily service in Bahrain-Kochi sector by the end of this year. At present the airline was operating services on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

He said flight service to Jeddah and Saudi Arabia would begin on June 10.

With the presence of Bahrain Air, the Kochi International Airport would have 18 airlines operating their services to various destinations, Airport Director A C K Nair said, adding the airport would be expanded to meet the tremendous growth in both passenger and flight services.
