BA plane develops snag airborne, lands safely at Chennai airport
Chennai, May 27 (UNI) Passengers aboard the British Airways (BA) flight from London to Chennai spent some anxious moments as the pilot was unable to release the wheels of the plane following a snag while trying to land at the airport here in early today.
According to airport sources, as the pilot was unable to release the wheels, the aircraft carrying 247 passengers circled for nearly 90 minutes.
After the pilot informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) about the snag, airport authorities immediately acted and made arrangements by positioning fire tenders, medical teams and security personnel to meet any eventuality.
However, the pilot succeeded in releasing the wheels and safely landed the plane at 0430 hrs, bringing a sigh of relief to the passengers as well as the airport authorities.
The return flight to London was yet to take off, the sources added.
