Guwahati, May 27 (UNI) The Airtel-Kripa Foundation today launched its first ever regional helpline for substance abuse and AIDS in North East (NE).
''Dedicated Airtel-Kripa Helplines will start in a phased manner from Guwahati followed by Kohima, Shillong and Imphal through our centres, Kripa Foundation Project Director Rabiul Islam said.
A two-day 'Telecounselling Workshop' was also organised by Bharati Airtel Ltd.
Mr Islam said these helplines were aimed at creating awareness on the hidden menaces like substance abuse, specially pharmaceuticals, and HIV/AIDS.
He further informed that since the past two decades regions like Manipur and Nagaland have witnessed a huge epidemic spurt in these dimensions.
Bharti Airtel CEO (NESA) Sudipto Chowdhury said, ''Ignorance is the main hurdle to finding effective solution to any social threat.
These helplines will provide information, tele-counselling, linkages, referrals and assist in crisis interventions.
He also cited that such a step by Airtel and Kripa would encourage other organisations and corporates to come forward and join this misson of corporate social responsibility mandate.
