Mumbai, May 27 (UNI) Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya today alleged that the 33,000 tonnes red imported wheat, stocked in Government godowns, was unfit for human consumption.
Talking to reporters here, Dr Somaiya said Civil Supplies Minister Sunil Tatkare has publicly announced that out of 33,000 tonnes wheat lying in Government godowns, only 1,000 tonnes would be thrown in the dumping yard. Around 18,000 tonnes is available for human consumption and 14,000 tons for animal consumption.
Dr Somaiya said Mr Tatkare should convince him about the quality of the whole stock.
Dr Somaiya had filed a special application before the Vacation Judge of the Mumbai High Court to present the samples of wheat from the stock. He also expressed surprise over the ''contaminated'' wheat being made available to the bakery owners.
He said the Party has collected samples of all the red imported wheat lying at various Government godowns in Sindhudurg, Devgad and Vaibhavwadi godowns, which were found unfit for human as well as animal consumption.
