Prohibitory order in diff parts of Kathmandu

Kathmandu, May 26: Barely two days ahead of the Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting to declare Nepal a republic and abolition of monarchy, Kathmandu District Administration Office has prohibited rallies, mass meetings, sit-ins and protest programmes in different places of the capital.

The state run Radio Nepal quoted the statement as saying that the prohibition is effective from today till further orders. The prohibition order has been imposed in and around Birendra International Convention Centre, where the CA meeting will take place, a road leading to Prime Minister's residence, Narayanhity Royal Palace and Maharajgunj area near the house of Mr Gyanendra where Prince Paras lives.

Similarly, the administration has also declared the way from Hanumanthan leading to BICC building along the Tanka Prasad Acharya road a prohibitory zone.

The protests, rallies and mass meetings have been imposed in and around Baluwatar area near the Chinese Embassy.

Besides, the administration has also banned temporary business, tea stalls and parking on the pavements and roads in the prohibited places.

The administration said that it would take action under the Local Administration Act if the order is violated.

The CA is preparing to abolish monarchy on May 28 and declare Nepal a republic.
