Lahore, May 26 (UNI) Virtually questioning the calibre of Pakistani cricketers, former captain Ramiz Raja said the inconsistent performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) was an indication of where they stood in the company of other international players.

''The biggest disappointment for me has been the fact that our players have not been able to perform consistently. We have had good performances here and there but not enough,'' Ramiz was quoted as saying by 'The News'.

He said the national team captain Shoaib Malik failure to contribute in the IPL so far is a prime evidence of how the Pakistani players haven't been able to live up to the expectations.

''The fact that our captain, Shoaib Malik has had to sit on the bench would also have him thinking as to the position our players need to occupy in international cricket,'' Ramiz said.

Although, a dozen players from Pakistan have been signed for the various franchises of the IPL, only Sohail Tanvir has stood out with some good bowling performances for the Rajasthan Royals.

While opener Salman Butt has made some useful contributions for Kolkata Knight Riders, other players from Pakistan like Mohammad Asif, Malik, Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Hafeez and Umar Gul have all been made to sit on the bench by their teams while Younis Khan joined the Rajasthan Royals late and is yet to play.

However, Ramiz, who is currently working as a commentator and an expert in the IPL, believes that the Twenty20 exposure in India would make the Pakistani players more responsible and better equipped to handle pressure situations.

''I think they can benefit from this experience. Because it is not everyday you get a chance to interact with the best players of the world,'' he said.
