FIR against former Legislative Council chairman in appointment case
Patna, May 26 (UNI) An FIR had been registered against Rajya Sabha MP and former Chairman of Bihar Legislative Council Jabir Hussain in connection with irregularities committed in large scale appointments made in the Upper House secretariat during his tenure.
In view of the earlier directives of Patna High Court, local police finally registered the FIR at Sachivalaya police station against Prof Hussain and then secretary of the Upper House Kapil Deo Prasad in the appointment scam, which had triggered discussions in the corridors of power.
The FIR lodged by one R K Singh, had been registered under various sections of prevention of corruption act. As per the FIR, most of the appointments were made in class III and IV and some in the higher grades, flouting laid rules and regulations.
Earlier, Mr Singh had also filed a PIL in Patna High Court drawing its attention towards the irregualarities committed by Prof Hussain in the appointments.
While hearing the PIL of Mr Singh, the court had earlier directed the acting chairman of the state legislative council Prof Arun Kumar to inquire into the matter and initiate appropriate action.
Meanwhile, senior Police Superintendent of Patna Amit Kumar said the police was investigating the case and would interrogate the persons involved in the irregularities.
The police had also obtained the list of the candidates appointed during that time and they would also be interrogated along with some of the officials of the Upper House involved in the case.
