Cong fears Gujjar agitation in UP; favours reservation
Lucknow, May 26 (UNI) Fearing eruption of violent Gujjar agitation in Uttar Pradesh, the state Congress today asked the Rajasthan government to provide ST status to the Gujjar community, which is demanding it since May 23.
''People of Gujjar community residing in UP are in rage following the police firing on the innocent people in Rajasthan,'' Congress leader Ranjit Singh Judev said at a party meeting here.
The protest that has taken an aggressive shape in Rajasthan could also ignite UP, he added.
Condemning the Rajasthan government for opening fire on the agitators, he said Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje should have thought twice before resorting to such suppression.
''Our party fully condemns such brutal acts,'' he maintained.
