Chandigarh, May 25 (UNI) Alleging large-scale malpractices by the Akali-BJP combine in the byelections, Punjab Congress chief Rajinder Kaur Bhattal today constituted a five-member committee to ascertain the factors responsible for the party's defeat in Amritsar (South) Assembly seat.
''The committee will closely study the large scale mal-practices indulged in by the Akali-BJP combine and its impact on the result of Amritsar South Byelection,'' a party release issued here today stated.
''The committee will also survey the constituency by closely interacting with the local leaders, workers and voters to ascertain the factors responsible for the result.'' The Committee will submit its detailed report within two weeks.
The committee will also study the legal and political aspects of the recent Panchayat Election results by interacting with the DCC Presidents and the concerned MLAs/Ex-MLAs and will recommend the constitution of district level legal bodies to the PPCC President to provide assistance to the aggrieved persons to enable them to take legal steps for redressal of their grievances arising due to ''large scale bungling and irregularities committed by the ruling party'' in the PRI Elections.
The members of the committee are Naseeb Singh Gill, Ex-Dy Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Bir Devinder Singh, Ex-Dy Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha, R R Bhardwaj, Ex-Dy Chairman Punjab Planning Board, Lt Col C D Singh Kamboj, Ex-Chairman Punjab Health Systems Corporation and Rakesh Ahir, Ex-Dy Principal Secretary Chief Minister.
