Srinagar, May 25 (UNI) Ignoring protest by separatists, the Pakistani band ''Junoon'' will perform before Kashmiris at Sher-e- Kashmir International Convention Complex (SKICC), on the bank of famed Dal Lake this afternoon.
The authorities have made unprecedented security arrangements and also imposed ban on plying of vehicles on some routes for the show.
The organisers Indian chapter of the South Asia Foundation said thousands of people from different parts of the Jammu and Kashmir, besides top functionaries of the government are expected to witness the show, first by any Pakistani group since the partition in 1947.
The concert is an effort to cement regional cooperation through cultural activity, they said adding that a peace process launched by India and Pakistan after a hostile atmosphere for more than a decade in 2004 has raised hopes of normalisation of relations.
The entertainment industry suffered in valley after the militant groups banned liquor shops, movie theaters and bars.
However, three cinema halls--Broadway, Regal and Neelam-- reopened in 2006 after state government provided them financial assistance. But Broadway, and Regal were again closed.
A number of liquor shops also reopned in the valley despite protests by local residents, religious and other organisations.
