Noida (UP), May 25: Thousands of Gujjars today gathered near here and blocked the railway track of Maripart Railway station to protest the police firing on members of their community in Rajasthan seeking ST status.
The protestors demanded resignation of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and also burnt her in effigy at Sector 6 market in Noida.
The GT Road from Lal Kuan, Chaprola, Roop Bagh, Maicha, Badarpur, Dadri, Chitahera was also blocked resulting in the traffic jam all over the region.
The Gujjar leaders said they were agitated over the killings of Gujjars and their protest and demand to provide them reservation would continue.
Yesterday, police opened fire to disperse mob of Gujjar protesters at Sikandara in Dausa district of Rajasthan while incidents of violence and arson were reported from a number of places protesting police firing in Bayana on May 23.
Police opened fire when other routine means proved to be ineffective in controlling the mob, which was staging a 'rasta roko', suddenly turned violent and resorted to stone pelting, arson and firing.
The renewed agitation has claimed 36 lives so far in Rajasthan.
