Kolkata, May 25 (UNI) German league champion F C Bayern arrived today on a three-day goodwill visit and play a friendly dubbed Oliver Kahn's farewell match in the city on Tuesday.
The football squad accompanied by many businessmen was accorded traditional welcome at the airport and was drove straight to a five-star hotel in this eastern India's most populous city.
The European football squad will be given a reception by Kolkata Police at Body Guards Lines where Kahn is scheduled to kick off a ''Friendly'' soccer championship, being hosted by the city police for local youth.
Altogether 450 teams are taking part in the month-long tourney titled as ''Para football'' (street football) across the city.
Bayern, before playing against India's oldest club Mohun Bagan at Salt Lake stadium on May 27, will attend a football clinic at CCFC ground tomorrow.
The visitors will go on a river cruising at Hoogly this evening and travel to Bardhaman tomorrow to open a football academy, a brainchild of West Bengal Commerce and Industry Minister Nirupam Sen, there.
Indian Football Association (IFA) was making elaborate arrangement in collaboration with Peerless Bengal to organise an exhibition match between FC Bayern Munich and Mohun Bagan.
Though Oliver Kahn recently retired from the competitive football after winning Germany's domestic football league, the Salt Lake play has been billed as Kahn's concluding game before he hangs boots.
