Jamshedpur, May 25 : For many students and schoolteachers in Jharkhand's steel city Jamshedpur, learning and teaching in classrooms has evolved.

An electronic digital display panel has replaced blackboards in schools for the students' convenience.

The digital classroom is a latest concept here at school level. Called Edu-Comp it projects the desired figures, alphabets and numerals on the electronic panel.

This transformation could be possible after Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company Limited (JUSCO), a civic services oriented group set up by the Tatas, evolved a novel mode of imparting education.

"I have been a teacher for a long time. Previously, I had to use black board and chalks. But now with the introduction of Edu-Comp, teaching has taken a new dimension for me. It's a fact that children learn visually and since the board is colourful and lively, it attracts the attention of the child," said Shashi Singh, a teacher of a school run by JUSCO.

Students are also very enthusiastic about the transformation of their classroom. They find it more colourful, interactive and interesting. For, it has made things easy to learn, especially the generally disliked and tough subjects like Mathematics and science.

"After learning from Edu-Comp it is easy for us to remember the things that are taught to us during the class. The black board is very boring, sometimes we even loose interest in the class," said Tejender Singh, a student.

"It's very friendly to have Edu-Comp in the class. One can really connect and understand the class properly," said Pooja Kumari, another student learning under JUSCO.

Besides, even for the teachers, the visual medium of teaching is quite interactive like this. The teacher can point out the students and make them understand easily. It helps teachers to even keep an eye on the students who prefer being 'back-benchers'.

"Edu-Comp and Digi-Board are the revolution. These things are of massive benefit to the child who sit at the back and doesn't take much interest in class. It also makes the class lively. The teacher and the student can interact properly," said Mili Sinha, a teacher of a school managed by JUSCO.

Surely Edu-Comp and Digi Boards are the components of the future classroom, and one may believe that this will help the children of India to cope with the stress of monotonous classroom sessions. By Girija Shankar Ojha
