Cong wins Indri, Gohana; Bhajan Lal ahead in Adampur in Haryana

Chandigarh, May 25 (UNI) The Congress today retained Indri and Gohana Assembly seats in Haryana while former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal of Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) was leading by over 19,000 votes in Adampur constituency in the state where bypolls were held on May 22.

In Indri, Congress nominee Bhimsen Mehta defeated his nearest HJC rival Rakesh Kamboj by a margin of 5,864 votes. Mr Mehta had polled 38,833 votes as against 32,969 votes of Mr Kamboj.

In Gohana, Congress candidate Jagbir Malik defeated his nearest INLD nominee K C Bangar by a margin of 22,162 votes. HJC's Dharam Pal Malik came third.

Meanwhile, Mr Lal was leading over his nearest rival Ranjit Singh of the Congress by a margin of 19,454 votes after the sixth round of counting while former Finance Minister Sampat Singh of the INLD was trailing at the third position.

Mr Lal is trying his luck again from the constituency after being disqualified under the anti-defection law for launching HJC while being in the Congress.

Mr Kamboj (Indri) and Mr Malik (Gohana), both Mr Lal's loyalists, were also disqualified under the anti-defection law for joining HJC while being in the Congress.
