CM for tough action on illicit liquor
Chennai, May 25 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today directed the police to take punitive action against those involved in brewing illicit liquor and those abetting it.
Mr Karunanidhi's directive to the Police Department, while chairing a review meeting of the Home Department at the State Secretariat here, comes in the wake of last week's hooch tragedy at Hosur in Krishnagiri District which claimed more than 50 lives.
He also asked the police to remain vigilant and prevent illicit liquor deaths in any part of the State.
''Take stringent action against those brewing illicit liquor and those abetting it'', he told the police.
During the meeting, Mr Karunanidhi reviewed the law and order situation in the State and asked the police to maintain extra vigil and take punitive and legal action against those inciting caste and communal clashes and indulging in desecration of statues of leaders.
