BJP wins 90 seats, scourging for simple majority in Karnataka
Bangalore, May 25 (UNI) The lotus is all set to bloom in South for the first time on its own through Karnataka as the Bharatiya Janata bagged 90 of the 174 results declared so far today in the 224 seat State Assembly and leading in 20 others.
The BJP considering the trend is likely to emerge the single largest party, bettering its 2004 performance of 79 seats. However, it might not cross the required magic figure for majority.
Congress was in a poor second position winning only 58 seats and was lead in 22 others, while the Janata Dal (Secular) which played a key role in government formation in the previous Assembly had won 21 seats so far and was in the lead in seven others. Other candidates won in five constituencies and were leading in one, according to the latest tally annonced by the Election commission.
