5 lakh units to be constructed under Indira Awas Yojna
Bhagalpur, May 25 (UNI) Bihar Rural Development Minister Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha has announced construction of five lakh houses for the the weaker section under Indira Awas Yojna during this fiscal.
Mr Kushwaha told reporters here yesterday that a whopping Rs 2000 crores would be spent on the construction.
In view of the spiralling prices of building materials, the government had increased the sum from Rs 24,000 to Rs 35,000 for each house to be constructed under the scheme, he added.
''Indira Awas Yojna and National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme have been made more practical to achieve the desired results in targetted area,'' Mr Kushwaha said, adding houses under the scheme would be allotted strictly as per the waiting list.
In Bhagalpur district alone, 11,600 houses would be constructed at the expenses of Rs 41 crores, he added.
