UP govt hikes DA by six per cent
Lucknow, May 24: As some relief to lakhs of state employees, Uttar Pradesh government today announced an increase of dearnness allowance (DA) by six per cent with effect from January 1, 2008.
An announcement to this effect was made by UP Chief Minister Mayawati at a press conference here. After the increase, the DA would now become 47 per cent.
As per practice, the DA arrears from January to April would be deposited in GPF of the employees while it would be paid in cash from May onwards. The DA revision is normally made twice in a year.
The increase in DA would cause an additional burden of Rs 700 crore on the state exchequer which incurs about Rs 14000 crore as salary bill of the employees.
About eight lakh state employees, three lakh teachers and one lakh local body employees would be benefited from the DA hike, she said.
The state government pensioners would also get the benefit accordingly.
