Lucknow, May 24 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government today announced to provide Rs 200 crore as re-imbursement of dues to thousands of students seeking higher education and were debarred from giving exams for non-payment of tution fee.

The re-imbursement of the fee is a part of the government's scheme for the students whose family earnings were below Rs one lakh per annum. Such students were to be taught on zero-fee basis.

The situation turned appaling for students mostly from the backward class whose fees were left unpaid during the previous regime due to which the fate of several students hanged in balance.

Coming down heavily on the previous Samajwadi Party government, Ms Mayawati today said the previous government had played with the future of the students.

''My government had directed all the institutions to announce the results of such students as their fees would be paid immediately,'' she said.

When the state government became aware about the problems of the students it immediately made provision of Rs 200 crore re-imbursement of the student's fees.
