Mumbai, May 24 (UNI) Former BJP MP Dr Kirit Somaiya today alleged that the widening work of Mithi river from the Santacruz Domestic Airport to Bandra-Kurla complex, a distance of 1.5 km, was not satisfactory.

After taking stock of the work, with city BJP chief Gopal Shetty, deputy mayor Vinod Ghedia and other officials, he said as it was decided to widen the 21 km long Mithi river upto 100 meters everywhere, this norm has not been followed from Airport to BKC, which will result in bottlenecks in the area.

He said there are nine bridges on the river and though it was proposed to widen all, work has not started on any of them.

Dr Somaiya alleged that the desilting work of the river is still incomplete, as 25 per cent of the desilting work is yet to be done.

He said the 3,500 people, who were rehabilitated due to Mithi river widening project, are facing several problems at the places alloted to them.

Dr Somaiya said that he will take up all these issues with the State government.
