Gujjar agitation forces BJP to shift Executive venue to Delhi
New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has shifted the venue of its National Executive to Delhi instead of Jaipur, in wake of the widespread violence created by the Gujjar community demanding Scheduled Tribe status in Rajasthan.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting presided over by BJP President Rajnath Singh.
The Executive in national capital would now be shortened by a day and be on June 1 and 2, BJP spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad told newspersons.
This is the second time that the Jaipur meeting has been cancelled for the same reason.
In the meantime, the top BJP leaders, including Leaders of Opposition in Parliament Lal Krishna Advani, Jaswant Singh and office bearers available in Delhi took stock of the Rajasthan situation.
The violent clashes between the Gujjars and police have claimed over 15 lives in Bayana, Rajasthan.
