AP Cong opposes move to hike prices of petroleum products
Hyderabad, May 24 (UNI) The ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh is opposed to any hike in petrol and diesel prices by the Centre in the wake of increase in crude oil price in the international market.
''Myself and Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy have given our mind to the Centre on the issue,'' Pradesh Congress Committee President D Srinivas said while participating in a meet-the-press programme organised by the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists here.
The Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre had not taken any decision on the issue as there were differences of opinion within the ruling coalition, he said, adding any hike at this juncture would affect the common people.
Dr Reddy had already spoken to Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora and urged him to protect the interests of the common man, he pointed out.
The UPA Government was working on multi-pronged strategy, including fuel price hike, to bail out the Oil Marketing companies, from huge losses by selling petroleum products at heavily subsidised rates.
