Spurned boy assaults girl with soft drink bottle

Hisar, May 23: A girl was seriously injured when a youth allegedly hit her on the head with a broken soft drink bottle after she turned down his marriage proposal in Sirsa town of the district.

According to police, Alpana, a B.Ed student, had repeatedly refused the proposal for marriage made by her neighbour Sonu alias Raju, who runs a flour unit at his home. According to police, when she was taking a stroll outside her house yesterday evening, Sonu again tried to make advances at her, to which she retaliated in anger. Sonu lost temper and allegedly hit her with an empty soft drink glass bottle. A profusely bleeding Alpana was rushed to a local hospital in an unconscious state from where she was referred to Sarvodaya Hospital here. Dr Umesh Kalra, who operated on the girl, told UNI that the victim was ''still very serious and not out of danger as small pieces of glass were still lodged in the skull''.

Police have registered a case under section 307 against Sonu who is absconding along with other family members.
