President Patil to visit Jammu Kashmir

New Delhi, May 23: President Pratibha Patil will begin her five-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir from today. During her visit, President Patil will meet jawans and officers of Indian Army in forward areas. This will be the first time that the President will be visiting the forward areas as well as Jammu and Kashmir after becoming the President of India.

Besides, President Patil will deliver the convocation address of the Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar and inaugurate the Institute of Kashmir Studies at Kashmir University. On Sunday, President Patil is expected to inaugurate the university complex at Bhadarwah. Elaborate security arrangements have been made in view of her visit. At least 700 personnel of the CRPF, IRP and state police have been pressed into service in and around the venue of the President's programme.

Thereafter, from Jammu, the President will travel to Himachal Pradesh on a state visit to participate in official functions.

President Patil will return to New Delhi on June 1.
