Noida, Uttar Pradesh, May 23 (UNI) Police today arrested noted dentist Rajesh Talwar in the murder of his daughter and servant that had created a stir in the national capital region.
Teenaged Delhi Public School student Aarushi was found with her throat slit in her bedroom. Initially the servant Hemraj was suspected to be behind the murder as he was missing.
The case took a new turn when the body of Hemraj was found on the terrace a day later.
Dr Talwar, a well known dentist, was arrested this noon after preliminary investigations into the killings of the 14-year-old Aarushi and their servant Hemraj (45), Inspector General (Meerut Range) Gurdarshan Singh told the media.
''For the time being only Dr Talwar has been arrested though there are several other accused in the case. The prime accused is Rajesh Talwar and he killed his daughter and servant.'' While stressing that the killings were done because of extra-marital affairs, the IG said various pointers during investigations and the interrogation of the suspects led to the arrest of Rajesh Talwar.
''More arrests are likely,'' he said adding that the prime motive was killing Aarushi who had come to know of his affair as had the servants of the house.
''Infact, Hemraj had talked of a threat to his life to his fellow mates of the area, which was revealed during investigations.'' First Hemraj was killed on the roof and then Aarushi in her bedroom at about 0100 hrs on the intervening night of May 15-16, he said adding that all along Rajesh misled the police about the twin murders. He even tried to camouflage Hemraj's body with the lid of an air cooler on the roof.
''All the leads pointed towards the involvement of Rajesh Talwar in both the murders which led to his arrest. Even questioning of other family members did not get any satisfactory reply.'' On the night of killing Rajesh had talked to 'someone' till about 12 midnight and any chances of an ousider involvement was very remote as there was a three-tier security arrangemnet at their Sector 25 Jalvayu Vihar apartment, he informed.
''Both the victims were killed in the same manner.'' Investigations into the case were still on and others in the family were also being interrogated, the IG added.
