Loan racket busted: 3 arrested

Bhopal, May 23: Police today claimed to have busted a gang indulging in amassing wealth by fabricating documents and cornering government grants meant for destitute women and housing loans in the state capital.

Three gangsters -Ganesh Kumar, Khalid Siddiqui and Ravi Chourasia- were arrested, while two others had been detained.

Employees of bank, local municipal corporation and Postal department were also involved in the forgery, Superintendent of Police Jaideep Prasad told reporters here adding several crores of rupees had been duped.

The gangsters used to prepare seals, ration cards and voter identity cards and also stole cheques from bank drop boxes and encashed it after depositing the same in other banks after opening new accounts.

Khalid, owner of a computer centre in Jehangirabad locality and his partner Ganesh Kumar besides a bank employee Ravi Chourasia were the kingpin of the gang active for more than two years.

The gang had cornered destitute pension provided to more than 200 people. Rajkumar Rai and Rajkumar Shakya were detained for duping several banks by getting housing loan through forged documents. A housing loan of Rs 10 lakh was availed from State Bank of Mysore.
