Ludhiana, May 23 (UNI) The district administration is gearing up to face any situation in case of floods in the district and Control Rooms fitted with proper elecommunication system would start functioning round-the-clock during the rainy season, Deputy Commissioner Sumer Singh Gurjar said here today.
A special Flood Committee will undertake inspection of entire stretch of Dhusi Bandh passing through the district tomorrow, the DC said adding that in a meetin held yesterday he had directed the officers to make elaborate advance flood fighting arrangements.
The officers of Drainage Department had been told to circulate the priority list of the flood protection works to be taken n Dhusi Bandh and other parts of the district among the concerned SDMs.
He also directed the SDMs to visit the project sites in their areas and submit the verification report.
Mr Gurjar also instructed the XEN Drainage and DRO to set up required Control Rooms fitted with telephones and set up Information and warning system in his office to be in contact with Bhakra Head Works regarding the discharge of water into the river and to relay the information to the office concerned without any delay.
Mr Gurjar asked the Civil Surgeon and Deputy Director Animal Husbandry to constitute sufficient teams of Doctors to meet any kind of emergency and keep in stock sufficient life saving medicines to meet out any emergency.
Deputy Director was also told to under take seasonal preventive vaccination of the animals in the district against the common diseases. The SDMs of all the sub-divisions were told to identify the places to be used as evacuee camps in case, the people have to be shifted from the affected villages.
The SDMs were also asked to inspect the flood fighting equipments lying in the Sub Divisions and to identify the NGOs and swimmers for any emergency.
