Tiruchirapalli, May 23 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Congress Sevadal today appealed to party president Sonia Gandhi to project her son and Congress Youth Wing leader Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
Talking to newspersons here after their state executive, Sevadal State Chief Organiser Kovai K Selvaraj said a resolution to this effect was adopted at the meeting.
The meeting thanked the Centre and Mrs Gandhi for ''taking initiative'' to introduce the Women Reservation Bill in Parliament.
The meeting condemned the collection of huge sums as donation from the students for admission to private colleges and schools and requested the State Government to curb commercialisation of education.
He said it was also decided to undertake a cycle rally from Virudhunagar, the birth place of former Chief Minister K Kamaraj, on July 15.
It was also decided to engage sevadal volunteers in each constituency to propagate the Congress-led UPA Government's various initiatives towards the development of the country.
