AP Govt's NREGP site bags 'Stockholm Challenge Award'

Hyderabad, May 23 (UNI) The software developed for implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP), under Andhra Pradesh Rural Development Department, has bagged the International Stockholm Challenge Award for the year 2008.

According to an official release here, department Principal Secretarty K Raju received the award at a function held at Stockholm on May 22.

The scheme was being run through specially designed software to make the NREGP system more accountable and transparent and to minimise time duration for various process.

The functions like generation of job cards, estimates for works, pay orders for wages and wage slips were being carried out using the software.

The software, developed by Tata Consultancy Services in co-ordination with the Rural Development Department, was installed two years ago as soon as the NREGP was launched in the state.
