New Delhi, May 22: The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government on Thursday completed its four years in power. The fifth and final year of the UPA Government has just began. The Government has already switched over to the election mode.
On its fourth birthday, the Government of India will release 73 booklets in all. This includes a report to the nation talking about the Rs 60,000 crore-farm loan waiver and other schemes in 17 Indian languages and English. There will be one report for each State telling what the UPA has done for that state and a FAQ pocket book answering everything one needs to know about government schemes.
In the fourth year itself, key Government decisions are a pointer that the party has an eye on the polls: farm loan waiver worth a staggering Rs 60,000 crore, Human Resource Development Ministry pitching for reservation for OBCs, Sachar Report with the Government asking for priority for the minorities in jobs and pleasing the civil servants through the Sixth Pay Commission report.
The UPA has been under the weather recently because of spiralling inflation which has touched the 7.8 per cent mark and poses the biggest challenge to the government. The BJP has been attacking UPA for its 'unkept promises'.
Union Minister for Rural Development Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh has reiterated the UPA Government's commitment for the betterment of common masses especially the rural folks across the country.
"During the last four successful and productive years of the UPA Government in office many important milestones were achieved by the Ministry of Rural Development," he added.
