Lucknow, May 22 (UNI) The third edition of the three day South Asian women's Handball Championship will begin here tomorrow at the K D Singh Babu stadium.
Tournament's organising secretary Anandeshwar Pandey said all the formalities for the smooth conduction of the championship were completed. He said hosts and defending champions India is the favourite for the top place in this edition too. In the earlier two championships, India registered victories over Bangladesh in the finals and this time they will try to complete the hattrick by winning here.
The secretary said, Nepal and India have already reached here yesterday and had practice sessions, while the other two teams -- runners up Bangladesh and Pakistan -- would reach by tomorrow morning.
The championship will be played on league-cum-knock out basis and top two teams of the league matches will vie for the top place, while the other two teams will clash for the third place.
The Indian team was upbeat, as their team members were fully fit and above all most of them have vast international level experience that will prove immensily helpful in retaining the title for the third consecutive year.
Uttar Pradesh PWD minister Nasimuddin would inaugurate the tournament tomorrow.
