Kolkata, May 22 (UNI) West Bengal BJP state secretary Rahul Sinha today said the CPI(M)-led Left Front government could have been washed out if the Opposition alliance was formed before the Panchayat election.
" The BJP had fought the Panchayat election last time jointly with the Trinamool Congress, but this time we fought alone and are satisfied with the party's performance. The ruling party would have obliterated easily from the state had the alliance in rural areas been formed before the election," Mr Sinha told newspersons here.
He said, the party had lost at least seven zilla parishad seats because of the Opposition parties vote division. The people's verdict against the forcefully land acquisition by the ruling was reflected in the election, he added.
'' The Opposition parties should take a lession from the result and take an initiative to form an Opposition together,'' he said.
'' We are urging all the Opposition parties to support the people's "Mahajot" and to fight the Left Front in the next election,'' he said.
