Hamirpur recorded about 55 per cent polling

Hamirpur, May 22 (UNI) An estimated 55 per cent voters exercised their right of franchise for the by-election to Hamirpur Lok sabha seat today in the Hamirpur district.

The weather God helped the political parties and there was not even a single drop of rain during the polling time that ended at 1700 hrs.

The polling started on a brisk note but became dull in the noon hours. It once again brisk in the afternoon hours and long queues of people were seen at almost all the polling stations of the district.

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, his son and BJP candidate for the Lok sabha seat, Anurag Thakur and their family members cast their votes at the Samirpur polling station. Entire Dhumal family came on foot from their house to cast their votes.

A large number of disabled and aged persons cast their votes with help of their family members. At Anu polling station of Hamirpur, 102-year-old Kartaro devi cast her vote with help of her family members. Four generations of this family cast their votes and it was an unique example for all.

Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner Nandini Gupta claimed that the polling ended peacefully and no untoward incident was reported from any part of the district.

She said that polling was around fifty-five percent. However, exact figure would be made available in the late evening hours.
