New Delhi, May 22 : The Union Cabinet has given its approval for the grant of relief and rehabilitation to the victims of communal riots in Gujarat in 2002.
The next of kin of 1169 people killed in the riots would be paid an amount of 3.5 lakh rupees. This will be in addition to the compensation provided by the State government, a statement issued by Cabinet said.
An additional ex-gratia payment has also been included in the proposal to 2584 injured. The amount will be at the rate of 1.25 lakh rupees minus what has been provided by the State government. Damaged un-insured commercial and industrial property will also be given an additional ex-gratia.
