Islamabad, May 21 (UNI) External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee raised the issue of Sarabjit Singh with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi during their talks here today and was told that the matter was under consideration.
''Mr Mukherjee raised the issue. He was told that the matter is under the consideration of various Ministries,'' sources said when asked whether the matter was discussed.
Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Islamabad would release 97 prisoners, including fishermen, on May 24.
However, the Ministers at the joint press conference after their talks did not say whether the matter was discussed.
A Joint Statement issued after the talks said both sides appreciated the work being done by the Judicial Committee on Prisoners, which will meet in Pakistan shortly.
The two countries signed a Consular Access agreement. It was signed by Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Satyabrata Pal and Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi Shahid Malik.
The two sides welcomed the finalisation of the Consular Access Agreement that would help address humanitarian aspects relating to persons under detention in each other's country and agreed to provide on a regular basis updated and comprehensive list of prisoners in each other's jails.
