Rs 30 crore Municipal Solid Waste Processing Plant inaugurated
Chandigarh, May 21 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator, Gen (Retd.) S F Rodrigues inaugurated a Rs 30 crore Municipal Solid Waste Processing Plant, first of its kind in northern India, at Dadu Majra near here today.
The foundation stone of this environment friendly project was laid by General Rodrigues himself on February 21, 2006. The project, completed in the stipulated time frame, was installed jointly by the Municipal Corporation and Chandigarh Administration with Jai Parkash Associates on BOOT basis.
On the occasion, General Rodrigues said the City had developed unique model of social and structural transformation and there was a need to further strengthen public-private partnerships in order to further upgrade civic amenities and improve the quality of life.
He said Chandigarh had witnessed rapid growth and development with implementation of various projects. He reaffirmed his commitment of ensuring an honest approach in every developmental activity and said anything going wrong in the Administration, must be brought to his notice so that corrective measures were taken.
He appealed to elected representatives and people to make a positive contribution as stakeholders for accelerating the pace of development and making the city more clean and green.
Alongwith Garbage Processing Plant another facility for closing and capping the sanitary land fill, has been added at a cost of Rs 9.55 crore General Rodrigues said the Chandigarh Administration had undertaken an ambitious programme of upgrading the sanitation of villages by June this year by installing sufficient number of toilets and taking other measures.
