National Taekwondo championship from May 23

Lucknow, May 21 (UNI) The 27th national Taekwondo championship for senior men, women, sub-junior and junior boys and girls categories would be held from May 23 to 25 at the 35th Battalion PAC hall here.

Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI) secretary general Jimmy R Jagtiani told here that about 900 players and officials from 28 teams of different states and union territories are expected to participate in this edition of the national championship.

The participating states are Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Delhi, Gujrat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Manipur, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Orissa, Punjab, Puddichery, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttranchal and host Uttar Pradesh.

Mr Jagtiani said the championship would be held under 8 weight categories for senior men and women and for Junior and sub junior boys/girls this would be played under 11 weight categories.

UP Taekwondo association had the honour of organising this championship for the 12th time, besides once an International championship, he informed.

In the last championship held at Kolkata, UP, with 183 points bagged the top position leaving behind Delhi (153 points) and Uttranchal(152 points) on 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

Meanwhile, TFI releasing the calendar of its activities for the year 2008 informed that 2nd International Goodwill Taekwondo championship between India and Pakistan would be held from November 23 to 25 next.
