Bhopal, May 21: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today announced that breakfast and meal allowance of policemen were being doubled.
''Breakfast allowance of Rs 8 and meal allowance of Rs 15 were being raised to Rs 15 and Rs 30 respectively'', he announced here today adding the state government was committed to provide more facilities to police personnel.
He also urged the police personnel to gain the people's confidence and said the state could achieve prosperity only if law and order was maintained. Referring to the housing problem, he said Rs 25 crore was earmarked for providing accommodation to police personnel this year.
The Chief Minister lauded the police for its success in containing terrorism, naxalism and dacoits and said this was the first occasion when no major dacoit gang was active in the Chambal valley. Police also destroyed the network of banned Students Islamic Movement of India by arresting its key activists in the state, he added.
Home Minister Himmat Kothari claimed that law and order situation in the state was better as compared to other states.
Mr S K Raut, who took over as the Director General of M P Police three days ago, stressed the need for a stringent legislation to deal with terrorism and urged the state government to enact a police act and increase the strength of police personnel to deal with cyber and other crimes.
