Leading firms in line for solar power projects in Haryana
Chandigarh, May 21 (UNI) To set up solar power projects in Haryana, leading private power producers like Reliance Industries Limited, Albina Power Limited, ACME Telepower Limited, Epuron Renewable Energy Power Private Limited, Emco Limited and RS India Wind Energy Private Limited have evinced keen interest.
While stating this here today, Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan, who is also the Minister-in-Charge of Renewable Energy, said that Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) has received as many as 20 proposals from the various power producing groups to set up solar energy based power projects in the state.
He informed that these proposals will be evaluated by the Technical Appraisal Committee constituted by the state government and thereafter, HAREDA will ink MoU with the shortlisted firms for preparation of Detailed Project Reports and their execution.
Power from these projects will be purchased by the State Power Utilities on the tariff approved by the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC), he said, adding that for fixation of tariff, HAREDA has already submitted a consultation paper to HERC for which public hearing was held on April 2, 2008 and the tariff order was likely to be issued by HERC soon.
''The state has about 320 clear sunny days in a year, which provides a great potential for using solar energy for various thermal and electrical energy applications in the state. However, the available potential of solar energy is yet to be harnessed in MW scale in the country,'' he said.
''While the cost of power generation through solar energy is higher as compared to other conventional and renewable energy power projects, the other environmental benefits relating to the alarming global warming are to be considered, as solar technology is a clean technology and hence helps in COs reduction,'' Mr Mohan added.
