Greater Panchkula to be developed under JNNURM
Panchkula, May 21 (UNI) Panchkula city will be developed as a greater Panchkula by developing its nearby cities Barwala, Morni, Pinjore and Kalka under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
Deputy Commissioner Rajinder Kataria after presiding over a meeting to discuss the modalities regarding the development of Panchkula on the pattern of Chandigarh, said that the cities having a population of more than 10 lakh had been included in this mission.
He pointed out that under the mission all kinds of infrastructural and basic facilities like roads, water supply, conservation of water, sewerage, drainage of storm water, bus stand, traffic, markets, parks, parking and waste management plants, etc. would be provided to the people of the cities.
Inter-city bus services to inter-link Mohali, Panchkula and Chandigarh would be started under the mission.
Presently, per head 135 litres of drinking water in 24 hours was being supplied to the residents of Panchkula and it would be increased to 250 litres per head in future, he added.
He said that under the mission, residential units were being provided to the people living in the slum areas.
First phase of this project had already been completed and sites for this project had already been identified in Kalka and Pinjore, he said.
