Panaji, May 21 (UNI) The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has expressed its support in favour of offshore casinos, which are legal entities in Goa.
Speaking to reporters here today after the GPCC State Executive Committee meeting, attended by Chief Minister Digamber Kamat and Home Minister Ravi Naik, GPCC president and MP Francisco Sardinha said the Committee was in favour of setting up of offshore casions in the state.
He was reacting to yesterday's anti-casino campaign by the state BJP in the city. The agitators, led by Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly Manohar Parrikar, had demanded that casinos be driven out of the River Mandovi, where they are anchored.
Mr Sardinha said Mr Kamat and the MPs were against going ahead with the proposed work on four-lane highway from Pernem to Canacona, though it was approved by the Central government.
The GPCC in its meeting also passed a resolution that the state should get representation in the Central Ministry.
The GPCC also congratulated the UPA government for completing four years tomorrow, he added.
