Floral tributes paid to Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary
Puducherry, May 21(UNI) Floral tributes were paid to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on the occasion of his 17th death anniversary here today.
Chief Minister N Rangasamy, his cabinet colleagues, Union Minister of State for Planning V Narayansamy, Legislators and senior officials of the Puducherry administration were among others, who garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi at Ellaipillaichavady.
Patriotic songs were sung and 'Anti-terrorism'' pledge was taken to mark the occasion. An all-religion prayer was also held near the statue.
PCC President A V Subramanian and office-bearers of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress also garlanded the statue.
Earlier, rich tributes were paid to a decorated portrait of the late leader at the PCC office here in which Chief Minister N Rangasamy, his cabinet colleagues, Mr Narayansamy, Mr Subramanian and others participated. They also took out a procession from the PCC office to the statue carrying the portrait.
Later, Union Minister Mr Narayansamy flagged off a motorcycle rally from Puducherry to Sripermabadur carrying the ''Rajiv Jyoti'' organised by the Youth Congress.
