Voter can carry alternative documents in absence of EPIC: Zende

Thane, May 20 (UNI) Thane Lok Sabha constituency district collector and district election officer S S Zende today specified a total of 13 documents, which will be valid to make a voter egiligible for voting on May 22.

In an official release, the election department said this evening that the Election Commission of India has implemented a programme for issuing Election Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to all voters.

All the voters in the Constituency, who have been issued with their EPICs, shall have to produce these cards to exercise their franchise, when they come to the polling stations for voting on May 22, Mr Zende said.

Mr Zende said that the Election Commission will, however, permit the voters who have not been issued their EPICs to vote, provided their identity is otherwise established by production of alternative documents like passports, driving licenses, Income Tax Identity (Pan) cards, Service Identity cards issued to its employees by State/Central Government, Publice Sector Undertakings, Local Bodies or public Limited Companies, Passbooks issued by Public sector Banks/post office and kisan passbooks (Accounts opened on or before March 31), Student identity cards issued by Recognised Educational Institutions on or before March 31, Property Documents such as Pattas, Registered Deeds, Ration Cards issued on or before March 31, SC/ST/OBC Certificates issued by competent on or before March 31, Pension Documents such as ex-servicemen's Pension Book/Pension payment order, ex-servicemen's Widow/Dependent Certificates, Old age Pension order Widow Pension order, Freedom Figther Identity Cards, Arms Licenses issued on or before March 31, Certificate of Physical Handicap by Competent Authority issued on or before March.
