Lucknow, May 20 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government today denied having issued any circular asking vendors to sell bicycles to only those who furnished Personal Identity (ID) proof.
''May be some vendors are asking for it as a precautinery measure in the wake of the recent bomb blasts where the bicycles had been used, but there is no such order from the state government,'' the Home Department officials told UNI here.
Brij Lal, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), UP, also denied of the same saying the reports being circulated in this regard were wrong.
The issue came to the fore after the use of bicycle bombs was suspected in the recent Jaipur blasts and earlier in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court premises a few months ago.
The officials made it clear that the presentation of ID to purchase bicycles was not a very practical idea, even though the alertness was required. ''The government does not feel it as a feasible measure,'' they added.
