Tributes paid to Kannada Lyricist Jayagopal

New Delhi, May 20 (UNI) A large number of Kannada artistes, writers, professors and academics paid rich tributes to distinguished Kannada cine lyricist, director, actor-screen-play and script writer R N Jayagopal who died at Chennai yesterday at the age of 73.

In a condolence meeting organised by "Delhali Kannadiga", a Kannada monthly published from here, its editor M B Samaga said Jayagopal started a new era in the field of Kannada cine lyrics composition and enthralled millions of Kannadigas by his 1600 songs that were composed in colloquial language.

Director of eight films, Jayagopal had received Karnataka State Film Awards and Karnataka Rajyotsava award. He lived in Chennai and for his distinguished contribution, he was conferred "Kalaimamani" award by the Tamil Nadu Government.

Mr Samaga urged the Karnataka government to build a Kannada film museum in Bangalore in memory of Jayagopal and demanded the Tamil Nadu government to name a road park in Chennai after him.
