Sohail and Munaf restrict Kolkata to 147 for eight

By Staff

Kolkata, May 20 (UNI) A splendid bowling performance by Sohail Tanvir and Munaf Patel checkmated the Kolkata Knight Riders from posting a challenging target to Rajasthan Royals as the former just managed to notch up 147 for the loss of eight wickets in the DLF-IPL T20 cricket match at the Eden Gardens here tonight.

Winning the toss RR skipper Shane Warne asked the KKR to bat first and his decision paid dividends as speedster Munaf Patel chipped in Mohd Hafeez cheaply followed by dashing opener Salman Butt, who returned to the pavilion scoring a mere 24.

Skipper Sourav Ganguly though tried to bring a semblance of respectability to the KKR total and played some sizzling strokes all over the ground, however, got out when he lofted Trivedi in an attempt to hit his second six only to be caught by Mohd Kaif.

Ganguly's 32 was studded with a towering six and two solid hits to the fence.

David Hussey tonight was not in purple patch as he was castled by Yusuf Pathan when he tried to lift the bowler over mid-on.

Local lad and hard hitter Debabrata Das spared no pains to stem the rot and piled up a glorious 32 with two sixes and one boundary to provide some sort of credence to the KKR total.

But none of the KKR batsmen was much comfortable against some tight bowling by Sohail Tanvir and Munaf Patel, who returned with figures of three wickets for 26 and two for 22 respectively.

Unlike other days, the Eden Gardens tonight was not packed as an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 spectators turned up to lend their support to their local team.
